We continue our journey through the U.S. cities where you can play casino. We have already seen in previous articles Reno and Biloxi, now we’ll fly to Atlantic City, a tourist town that today is known as one of the best centers in America to play at gambling. The history of Atlantic City as a casino town is of less than four decades, while New Jersey may even claim to be the Las Vegas of the East Coast.
Atlantic City is the first destination for gamblers in the eastern United States. In Atlantic City gambling has had its ups and downs over the last three and a half decades, but the people of New Jersey is determined to maintain their city as one of the best cities to play a casino in North America.
Thanks to its proximity to Atlantic City with Philadelphia, Atlantic City was a resort town long before the first casino opened. The city was incorporated in 1854, the same year in which it was built the road connecting it with Philadelphia. Soon, Atlantic City has become a resort for those who came from Philadelphia.
During the 20th century, developers began to improve this location. The Boardwalk is now larger, particularly along Ohio Avenue. Since 1920, the popular board game Monopoly has started to use some of the streets of Atlantic City as Park Place and Pennsylvania Avenue.
Atlantic City was a resort destination in the era of the train. The people left their homes in summer and moved by train for several weeks in Atlantic City, to enjoy the comfort of the air-conditioned hotels in the city.
